Patrick Tobin was born in Lisheen Tipperary, Ireland in 1809 to Patrick Tobin and Alice (Surname Unknown).
He was a farm labourer. He married Alice Dwyer in Ireland. They had 4 children while in Ireland; Mary, Bridget, Honora (known as Nora, Amy, and Annie) and Michael.The year after Michael's birth, the family emigrated to Australia. |
They departed Liverpool, England on the 11th of March 1853 and arrived in Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia aboard the ship John Fielden on the 19th of June 1853.
The information about the Ship (John Fielden) of 916 tons was published in the Moreton Bay Courier 18 June 1853. On the film, from which this list was copied, the year 1853 was crossed out and 1854 put in. Although the Statement at the beginning of this list states ". . . four deaths and seven births on the passage", Thomas Guerin, passenger #110 was the only death indicated, and three births were annotated: passengers #127, HUNT, Infant male; #199, O'NEIL, Infant; and #229, PURCELL, Infant girl. Patrick died on the 3rd of April 1887 aged 78 years. He was buried on the 4th of April in Toowong Cemetery (Portion 7, Section 5, Grave 22). He is buried alongside his wife Alice, his son John Tobin, and his daughter Annie Stafford.
